The Bronx High School for the Visual Arts, familiarly known as B.H.S.V.A , is a New York City public high school established as an art school in 2002 under Mayor Michael Bloomberg's Small Schools Initiative program. It is a New Visions for Public Schools institution which oversees funding for the various small schools created by the program but is served by the New York City Department of Education. The school once was housed in the Christopher Columbus Educational Campus before moving to the old Mercy College Bronx campus building in late 2004. The school is within walking distance of the Bronx Zoo and the New York Botanical Garden.
