BHSVA WIN Class, Making Sure You Get What You Need to prepare for the Future BHSVA WIN Story of the Start of the Win Program here at BHSVA and scholars Memories of the year. Show Transcript my win program is an opportunity for my students to get exactly what they need in terms of content and educational experiences that are dressed there specific literacy needs desires passion an alarm my peers their English Learners and I've seen like Eve just in the way they speak I see them pronounce words better it's just amazing how I've seen people progressed from one class before I had the one class I was struggling when I didn't know any word in English I don't understand nothing they were I know it's just like not knowing my head and then when they had them in class the teacher and learning a lot of stuff everyday we were learning new different topic and new vocabulary and then me being fired and that class if you could help me out you help me how to be a compass and how to read out loud in pronouncing words correctly learning the new vocabulary pronouncing them and in my writing and how to ride those full sentence it really helps me for granted a student and I feel like it helps everybody forgot to the soon because a lot of what is their cater to a certain groups of people in certain mindsets but when the class there's so many different ones that you can have many cater to you because that's what he did and I know other people there when classes the same they look what you do in class cuz there's a group of people who understand they're talking about and understand how they think and how they feel answer topics 51% of students in the New York City Board of Ed to not read on grade levels during covid we started doing reading assessment do you realize that many of her students were lagging behind in terms with their reading skills and we needed to do something urgently so we created a program where students in the ninth grade are programs exactly at the same time for a strategic meeting. That we called when what I need based on different assessments we determine what students need and we place them in the specific courses that will address those needs and then dumb to the very next level I think when it's very comfortable and safe to put you at a level where you supposed to be where you can help you grow and extend on your reading there's different multiple wine glasses and I'll help you with certain things needed so we have courses that our intervention courses that are taught by teachers who are trained in research-based curriculum that addresses a myriad of issues and we also have I'm happy to stay at Celebration for I thought every single student in my school knows that literacy is important it's valuable it's needed and it doesn't matter if you're reading on grade level or not that's why you going to have a 1 class there's lots more things you can discover with when it how challenge your mind and make you try new things which is something real nice to see that they're getting more confident and the kids really appreciate that when classes because their program is courses that are designed to address again there specific me to see how my fears think because an author science or English but we don't really get that experience it's just doing the work button debate we actually communicate and we see how each other think it doesn't really fit the classic feels like The Learning Adventure could have learned so much just from like a few weeks of debate really get into a broad topic and like real world things like important and that you kind of need to form an opinion on anyways I feel for me and debate class where you're informed about it's how we find a pin is I didn't even know I had students have powerful voices but sometimes in schools we don't give them the opportunity to really shave their voices and I think that's a big class does just that proud of the fact that my students in the wind class see the value of having a second strategic reading. That's focused on literacy in their classroom I'm proud about the fact that they really get how much we care about them because we are investing so much time and energy and thought into providing them with these support and resources when because it's a community of people who learn like you maybe aren't the same background as you can really have interesting conversations about the topics are learning and makes you feel more comfortable knowing that there's other people like you that's also struggling and helping to work find thinking that you're doing I'm very happy I found people were at the same level as me and support each other and we can improve every day when we when you go to the other class than that. Our kids are really flourishing in their other classes as a result of this incredible opportunity that they're getting it High School
